Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
