Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
