Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
