Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
